Marvel as a Beacon for Awareness?

A lot of us are familiar with Marvel studios and the films they have been putting out. Some people don’t like superhero movies, which is fine, but for what they are, they have been excellent the past decade, and not because audiences are bleak and have small attention spans, but because Marvel has done things right or a while now. The reason Marvel is so successful is of course their world building and likable characters, sharing the same attributes as the Harry Potter franchise. They also care deeply about their fans, their characters, their origins, etc. But the real gem in Marvel is how they integrate the use of diversity in their films. My personal favorite is Captain America because of his origin, he was brave, always wanted to do the right thing, never gave up, and was physically weak until he became Captain America. A lot of my friends love Spiderman because he’s a selfless character, after high school he’s poor, he’s not rich like most other superheroes, he has an outstanding moral compass while trying to balance his superhero life with being a regular teenager. Marvel has created relatable characters for all types of groups, and they even have bi/gay characters in the films. The reason these films and characters are loved though, is because they aren’t too gimmicky. They focus on being a character that happens to also be gay, instead of making that their whole personality. Hell, even Black Panther knocked it out of the park with its characters, tribalism met technology to introduce Wakanda and its people, bringing the audience something rarely seen before with the use of diverse characters with unique cultural aspects while still making a superhero film that makes you really think about its villains motives and if he was really even unjustified in his journey. Killmonger was a great villain because his motives were understandable and you felt empathy for his cause, despite him still being evil and biased. Thanos was also a great villain because in his own mind he was right, he was wise, cunning and believed what he was doing was the right thing for humanity, there was a lot of depth to his character as well. This is what makes Marvel truly special is the fact that they can create unique and entertaining characters in their films while satisfying all groups, Star Wars should take notes considering they’re from the same studio, because they have a unique audience as well, however they have been struggling to satisfy them because of their decisions. If they were to integrate the same techniques as Marvel, then they would be just as successful.
